Pain Management, Spine, Back, Neck

Fellowship-trained pain management specialist Dr. Melissa Murphy joined North Texas Orthopedics & Spine Center in 2019. She specializes in providing relief for acute and chronic pain and is dedicated to working with each patient individually to develop a personalized treatment plan and to improve function.

Dr. Murphy received her Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Seniors. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Murphy received a full scholarship to attend medical school and was enrolled in a combined MD/MPH program in El Paso, Texas. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Texas Tech University Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from The University of Texas School of Public Health. She went on to complete an anesthesiology internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, before undergoing additional fellowship training in pain medicine at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.

Dedicated to using leading-edge technology and evidence-based treatment options, Dr. Murphy not only performs spine injections, peripheral joint injections, radiofrequency ablations, and sympathetic blocks, but also offers spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, nonsurgical knee pain treatments, and certain cancer pain therapies. She has a special interest in using neuromodulation to treat chronic pain that is refractory to conventional methods.

Dr. Murphy went to high school in Sugar Land, Texas, and has family all across the Dallas and Houston areas. After spending more than a decade in medical training, Dr. Murphy, her husband, Brian, and son, Derek, are excited to come back to Dallas-Fort Worth to give back to the community.
