Dr. Melissa Murphy is a fellowship-trained, double board-certified interventional pain specialist at North Texas Orthopedics and Spine Center in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. She is widely recognized for her compassionate patient care, leadership in pain medicine, and commitment to advancing technology, innovation, and research in the field. Known for her disciplined, thoughtful, and reliable approach, Dr. Murphy’s work reflects her passion for improving quality of life through evidence-based, cutting-edge treatments.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University, where she was honored as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Seniors, Dr. Murphy received a full scholarship to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a Pain Medicine Fellowship at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago. She is double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Dr. Murphy’s bicultural background enriches her empathy, adaptability, and global perspective—qualities that have shaped her leadership across diverse medical and cultural settings. She currently serves as Chair of Innovation and Growth on the United Musculoskeletal Partners National Leadership Board, Treasurer and Executive Board Member of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN), and Chair of the Women in Neuromodulation (WIN) Committee for the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS).
An internationally recognized educator and thought leader, Dr. Murphy has delivered over 100 lectures and presentations worldwide, advancing the understanding of spinal cord stimulation, neuromodulation, and interventional pain management. Her professional impact extends through her contributions to clinical innovation, research, and mentorship, where she continues to inspire the next generation of leaders in pain medicine.
Dr. Murphy is an expert in advanced pain therapies, utilizing leading-edge, evidence-based interventions to treat conditions including neck pain, low-back pain, post-laminectomy syndrome, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, nonsurgical knee pain, spine compression fractures, and cancer-related pain. Her procedural expertise includes spine injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation (SCS), peripheral nerve stimulation, Iovera Cryoneurolysis, basivertebral nerve ablation (Intracept®), targeted drug delivery (TDD), vertebral augmentation (kyphoplasty), and spine tumor ablation (OsteoCool™).
